Inventory & Cost Analyst

SUMMARY

A highly analytical and detail-oriented Inventory & Cost Analyst to ensure the accuracy of inventory records, support financial analysis and reporting, and manage inventory-related cost analysis. This role is focused on maintaining the integrity of inventory data for balance sheet accuracy and product cost analysis within the Finance & Accounting team. The position will involve working closely with procurement and warehouse teams to ensure inventory accuracy.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Inventory Management (Finance Focus):

  • Inventory Accuracy: Ensure that all inventory data in the accounting and ERP systems is accurate and aligns with physical inventory levels, directly impacting financial reporting and the balance sheet.
  • Financial Reconciliation: Conduct regular reconciliations of inventory balances with financial records, ensuring discrepancies are identified, investigated, and corrected in a timely manner.
  • Cost of Goods Sold (COGS): Support product cost analysis by providing accurate inventory data, ensuring proper costing of materials used in production and reflecting in COGS calculations. 
  • Inventory Valuation: Assist in monthly and year-end inventory valuation for financial reporting and provide analysis of any inventory-related variances affecting profit margins.

Collaboration with Procurement and Warehouse:

  • Coordination: Work closely with procurement and warehouse teams to understand inventory movements, stock adjustments, and production needs—ensuring that all inventory transactions are accurately reflected in the financial records.
  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with both teams to identify and implement process improvements that ensure more accurate and efficient inventory tracking and adjustments from a financial perspective.
  • Forecasting & Planning Support: Provide input into inventory forecasts based on financial data and support procurement and warehouse teams in aligning inventory levels with financial and operational goals.

Cost Analysis & Reporting:

  • Inventory Cost Control: Analyze material costs and inventory turnover to identify cost-saving opportunities. Optimize stock levels and reduce excess inventory.
  • Inventory Reporting: Prepare detailed inventory reports, highlighting trends, discrepancies, and cost implications on product pricing and profitability.
  • Variance Analysis: Monitor and analyze inventory-related variances (e.g., between physical count and accounting records) and provide insights into their financial impact.

Support Financial Analysis:

  • Assist in financial audits and internal reviews of inventory records, ensuring they comply with accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
  • Provide ad-hoc inventory-related analysis to support business decision-making and financial planning.

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in inventory control or financial analysis, with a focus on inventory management for financial reporting and cost analysis, preferably in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles related to inventory, such as inventory valuation, COGS, and balance sheet reconciliation.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Business Central, Oracle, SAP, or similar) for inventory management and financial reporting. Business Central experience is preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze and interpret complex data sets.
  • Familiarity with costing methodologies and how inventory impacts product cost and profitability.
  • Attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and collaborate with procurement, warehouse, and finance teams.
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations, quality standards, and industry best practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Permanent Full-time position (40 hours per week)
  • Work is performed in Vancouver (Powell Street) and Delta (Beedie Way)
  • Occasional travel to Toronto may be required.
